On Sunday, February 15, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out one of their largest-scale attacks on Russian regions since the start of the conflict. Over the course of the day, Russian air defense systems destroyed or intercepted 405 unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, strikes involving U.S.-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems targeted the Belgorod and Bryansk Regions.

The assault began shortly after 7 a.m. and continued until nearly 11 p.m. The heaviest pressure fell on the Bryansk Region, where, according to local authorities, more than 170 fixed-wing drones were shot down.

Regional officials reported damage to energy infrastructure facilities. By Sunday evening, parts of Bryansk and nearby districts were experiencing disruptions to electricity and heating supplies. Governor Alexander Bogomaz said reserve capacities had been activated and repair crews were working to restore services. He stated that the attack had lasted more than 12 hours and that units of the Russian Defense Ministry, the BARS-Bryansk brigade, and Rosgvardiya special forces had been engaged throughout that time in neutralizing aerial targets, with over 170 aircraft-type drones eliminated over the region.

In the Belgorod Region, Ukrainian forces also employed HIMARS systems, launching them from the direction of Kharkov. According to the authorities, the strikes were deliberately aimed at energy facilities. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that the city of Belgorod and the surrounding district had come under heavy rocket fire. Preliminary information indicated no casualties, though energy infrastructure sustained significant damage. Emergency and operational services were assessing the extent of the destruction.

Earlier that same day, reports also emerged of an attempted drone attack on Moscow. Fifteen UAVs were shot down on approach to the capital, while several others were intercepted over the Moscow Region.

Despite the масштаб of the operation, experts assessed its effectiveness as limited. The majority of the incoming targets were destroyed by air defense systems.
