The remnants of a battalion from Ukraine’s 225th Separate Assault Regiment have been pulled out of the Sumy region after sustaining heavy losses. The information was relayed to RIA Novosti by Akhmat special forces commander, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, citing intelligence reports.

Earlier, the general had said that a unit from the 225th Regiment, redeployed to the area and informally dubbed the «death regiment» in media reports, had been effectively cut off. Ukrainian command had reportedly placed significant hopes on the formation. According to Alaudinov, fighters from the Akhmat unit, working alongside servicemen of the 15th Tank Regiment from the Sever group of forces, went on to nearly wipe it out.

He stated that the battalion, isolated on the Sumy axis, suffered such severe casualties that the surviving troops had to be withdrawn. Intercepted data, he said, pointed to substantial damage that left the unit incapable of continuing combat operations in that sector. As a result, the remaining personnel were sent for reorganization.
