Russia’s Molniya-2 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle has received a new upgrade: the drone is now configured to drop both metal spikes and anti-personnel mines.

According to the Telegram channel Voennyi osvedomitel, the Molniya-2 has been fitted with two separate release units for its combat payload. One compartment is loaded with 24 anti-personnel mines, while the second carries spikes intended to stop wheeled vehicles. In total, the UAV can reportedly deploy up to 60 spikes and 24 mines. The drone has also been equipped with an additional camera mounted on the underside of the fuselage, used to improve the accuracy of munition drops.

Voennyi osvedomitel describes the Molniya-2 as a twin-engine UAV with a wingspan of about 1.5 meters and a mass of roughly 10 kilograms. The platform can carry up to six kilograms of payload and operate at distances of up to 60 kilometers from the launch point. These drones are employed both as loitering munitions — so-called «kamikaze» drones — and as reconnaissance assets.

Earlier, in January of this year, Russian forces in the special military operation zone received another modified version of the Molniya-2. In that configuration, the UAV is able to carry a single FPV drone and release the quadcopter near enemy positions.
