Russian Gortenziya drones adapted for remote grenade launcher strikes

Russian forces use Gortenziya drones with handheld grenade launchers for remote strikes on Ukrainian positions, adding fiber-optic control to counter electronic warfare.
Russian forces have begun using the «Gortenziya» drones, modified to carry handheld grenade launchers for remote strikes on Ukrainian positions. The development was reported to TASS by the People’s Front.
The project’s technical director, known by the callsign «Mex», explained that the drone can be fitted with a handheld anti-tank grenade launcher. Once attached, the operator directs the drone toward the target, takes aim, and fires. After the shot, the empty tube is dropped, and the aircraft returns for reloading. According to him, this system does not require any additional modifications: the launcher is simply mounted, armed, and sent on its mission.
Mex also noted that front-line units are receiving fiber-optic versions of the Gortenziya. The advantage of this model, he said, is the ability to switch seamlessly between fiber-optic and radio channels. If the fiber line is cut or too short, the drone automatically continues to operate via radio.
He stressed that fiber optics are not a trend but a necessity. They help conceal operator positions by eliminating radio emissions and counter the widespread use of electronic warfare systems on the battlefield. By combining both channels, engineers have sought to increase the drone’s survivability.
A serviceman from Russia’s 4th Motor-Rifle Brigade, using the callsign «Varyag», told Lenta.ru that drone operators often have to conduct attacks «blind». He explained that as drones approach a target, video transmission frequently breaks down, forcing crews to act without real-time visuals.
