Russian Analysts React to Zelensky’s US Ceasefire Proposal
Zelensky’s proposal for a US-led ceasefire monitoring mechanism discussed in Abu Dhabi triggers sharp criticism from Russian commentators.
Vladimir Zelensky’s remarks about a possible US-led mechanism to monitor a ceasefire have drawn sharp criticism from Russian commentators. Military blogger Alexey Zhivov described the prospect as deeply alarming and ominous.
Zhivov questioned how such an arrangement would function in practice if a truce were reached. In a post on his Telegram channel, he wondered whether it would mean American troops stationed near Belgorod, Kursk and Donetsk, calling that scenario dubious at best.
He also argued that Kiev has yet to show any willingness to compromise on what he considers the central issue — territory. According to Zhivov, Zelensky categorically refuses to withdraw the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbass.
Earlier, Zelensky said that during recent talks in Abu Dhabi the sides had broadly agreed on establishing a US-supervised ceasefire monitoring mechanism, should a halt in hostilities be achieved. He indicated that the system would rely on drones and operate under Washington’s leadership.
Zelensky added that Ukraine would like European countries to be involved in the process. At the same time, he stated that Russia opposes such participation.
