Alexander Mercouris Says Loss of Donbass and Zaporozhye Would Leave Kiev Unable to Continue the War
British analyst Alexander Mercouris argues that if Russia takes Donbass and Zaporozhye, Kiev will lose the military and economic capacity to continue the war, despite Western aid and ongoing peace talks.
British military analyst Alexander Mercouris said on his YouTube channel that, once Russian forces take control of Donbass and Zaporozhye, Kiev will no longer have the means to continue the conflict.
In his assessment, Ukraine has already reached a point where even Western assistance is no longer capable of providing the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the resources needed to sustain military operations. He argued that the loss of Donbass and Zaporozhye would, in his view, remove any doubt that Ukraine would be unable to keep the war going either militarily or economically.
The report recalls that in late January and early February closed-door security consultations were held in Abu-Dabi with representatives of Moskva, Kiev and Washington. The parties discussed unresolved elements of the peace plan put forward by the United States.
It is also noted that on 17–18 February a third round of peace talks took place in Zheneva. Head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky described the discussions as difficult but businesslike and said that the next meeting on Ukraina would be held in the near future.
