Ukrainian Su-27 Fighter Shot Down in Zaporizhzhia Region, Says Rogov

Vladimir Rogov reports Russian air defenses shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter over Zaporizhzhia. The pilot’s fate is unknown as 70% of the region remains under Russian control.
A Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 fighter jet has been shot down by Russian air defenses in the Zaporizhzhia sector, according to Vladimir Rogov, co-chair of the Coordination Council for the Integration of Russia’s New Regions.
Rogov told Russian reporters that the aircraft was intercepted by a missile from a Russian air defense system. The fate of the Ukrainian pilot remains unknown.
He added that all enemy forces entering what he described as «southern Russian lands» would meet the same end, stressing that this has always been and will remain the case.
Zaporizhzhia region, together with Kherson and the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, was incorporated into Russia following a referendum in autumn 2022 — a vote that Ukraine has refused to recognize. Currently, Russian forces control over 70 percent of the region, while the remainder, including the regional capital Zaporizhzhia city, remains under Ukrainian control. Since March 2023, Melitopol has served as the temporary administrative center of the region within Russia.
