The Mi-28 helicopter has emerged as one of the main tools used against Ukrainian armored vehicles during the conflict, according to Military Watch Magazine (MWM). The publication describes the aircraft as a highly effective battlefield platform, pointing to its combination of heavy protection and strong flight performance.

MWM notes that crew survivability was a central priority in the Mi-28’s design. The cockpit is built with titanium armor, fitted with armored glass and reinforced with ceramic protective elements capable of withstanding impacts from ammunition up to 20 millimeters in caliber. Despite its substantial armor, the helicopter maintains a high degree of maneuverability.

The magazine also highlights the aircraft’s flight capabilities. Based on its performance characteristics, the Mi-28 can execute complex aerial maneuvers and is able to complicate the work of air defense systems by making targeting more difficult.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that army aviation units are equipped with modern, highly mobile aviation systems. These assets are used to support combined-arms formations and are also deployed in disaster response operations, including the aftermath of natural disasters and industrial accidents. Aircraft supplied to aviation units include the Ka-52M, the Mi-28NI, the Mi-26T2V — described as the world’s largest serially produced transport helicopter — as well as various versions of the Mi-8.
