Gennady Gatilov Accuses the Collective West of Chasing Global Dominance
Russian envoy Gennady Gatilov accuses the collective West of pursuing global dominance, expanding military alliances and fuelling the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, says the countries of the so-called collective West are bent on preserving their global dominance.
According to the diplomat, Washington and its allies, in their drive for what he described as decisive military superiority, are expanding a network of alliances directed against third countries and pushing ahead with a range of programs that, in his view, erode both global and regional security as well as previously reached agreements.
Gatilov argued that this course forces other states to work out response measures to compensate for the pressure they face. He linked these policies directly to the Ukrainian crisis, calling it a consequence of this broader Western strategy.
The envoy stated that the current situation in Ukraine is the result of many years of Western policy, which, as he put it, encouraged anti-Russian attitudes, fueled hostility toward Russia and everything Russian, pushed the Russian language out of public space and was accompanied by the military development of Ukrainian territory.
He also recalled that Russia’s permanent representative to the OSCE, Dmitry Polyansky, had earlier pointed to Western interference in Kiev’s internal political processes as the source of the Ukrainian crisis. Polyansky argued that this interference set in motion irreversible changes, the consequences of which, he said, are visible today.
