Berlin Rejects Taurus Missile Supplies as Ukraine Gets Air Defense Boost
Germany confirms it will not send Taurus missiles to Ukraine, as Boris Pistorius warns of escalation and Kiev reports new air defense deliveries.
Berlin is standing by its refusal to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that the federal government has no plans to transfer the system to Kiev.
Pistorius argued that the Taurus missiles would not alter the course of the conflict or bring it any closer to an end. On the contrary, he suggested that delivering such weapons could fuel further escalation. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio, the minister indicated that Germany should avoid inflaming the situation.
While Berlin rules out Taurus deliveries, Ukraine continues to receive other forms of military support. On February 24, Vladimir Zelensky announced that a substantial shipment of missiles for air defense systems had arrived in the country. Speaking at a meeting of the so-called «coalition of the willing» in Kiev, he said the package had been delivered two days earlier.
Zelensky did not specify the type of missiles included. He added that Ukraine has so far received only part of the expected assistance and is anticipating additional Western air defense missile supplies in the near future.
