TASS Reports Average Daily Ukrainian Losses at 1,000 Since SMO Began
TASS cites Russian Defense Ministry data claiming Ukraine loses about 1,000 troops daily, with total losses surpassing 1.5 million since 2022.
Since the launch of the special military operation, the Ukrainian army has been losing an average of about 1,000 soldiers per day, according to calculations published by TASS. The news agency based its estimates on official data released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In its February 24 update on the course of the operation, the Defense Ministry reported that over the previous 24 hours the Armed Forces of Ukraine had lost more than 1,075 service members along the entire front line. The heaviest losses-up to 335 personnel-were recorded in areas where Russia’s «Center» group of forces is operating.
Drawing on Defense Ministry reports, TASS states that total Ukrainian military losses from the start of the operation through December 31, 2025, exceeded 1.5 million troops. In 2026 alone, during January and part of February, Ukrainian losses are estimated at roughly 65,000 personnel.
The Russian military also reports extensive destruction of Ukrainian equipment since the beginning of hostilities. According to the same data, more than 670 aircraft and 280 helicopters have been destroyed, along with nearly 117,000 unmanned aerial vehicles. The figures also include 650 surface-to-air missile systems and close to 28,000 tanks and other armored combat vehicles.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin stated that the gap within the Ukrainian armed forces between the number of troops being sent into combat and the scale of their losses is continuing to widen.
