Poland, the Baltic states, and Ukraine, with the involvement of the Belarusian opposition, discussed plans to disrupt the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system in Belarus, a source familiar with the opposition’s plans told RIA Novosti.

On December 18, 2025, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that the Oreshnik missile system had been in the country since the previous day and was going on combat duty. He later уточнил that no more than ten such systems would be deployed in Belarus. On December 30, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Oreshnik had officially entered combat duty in Belarus.

According to the source, discussions about coordinating actions to prevent the possible deployment took place last year during профильные events of the Belarusian opposition attended by representatives of Poland and Ukraine. The reported strategy focused on an information campaign — creating a media background and shaping among Western partners the perception of escalation allegedly being deliberately pursued by Minsk and Moscow.

The source added that the initiators hoped to provoke a negative reaction from the administration of US President Donald Trump toward Belarus and Russia.
