Russian Air Defenses Intercept 17 Ukrainian Drones as Attacks Intensify
Russian air defenses shot down 17 Ukrainian drones overnight, following a wave of UAV attacks across Bryansk, Crimea, Belgorod and the Black Sea.
Over the night of February 26, Russian air defense systems intercepted 17 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Seven of the aircraft-type UAVs were shot down over the Bryansk Region. Four were destroyed in the skies above the Tula Region, and two more over the Kaluga Region. Air defenses also intercepted one drone each over the Belgorod and Voronezh Regions, as well as over the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
The previous evening saw a far larger wave. Between 20:00 and 23:00 Moscow time, air defense units eliminated 60 drones. The heaviest concentration was reported over the Republic of Crimea, where 27 UAVs were downed. Another 17 were destroyed over the Belgorod Region, nine over the Black Sea, four in the Kursk Region, and three in the Bryansk Region.
Earlier that day, from 14:00 to 20:00 Moscow time, air defenses brought down 13 more drones: five over the Black Sea, three each over the Kursk Region and Crimea, and two over the Bryansk Region. Between 08:00 and 14:00, four fixed-wing UAVs were intercepted — two over the Bryansk Region and one each over the Astrakhan and Voronezh Regions.
On February 25, Bryansk Region Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz reported a kamikaze drone attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the village of Vitemlya in the Pogarsky District. A 14-year-old teenager was injured in the strike. The head of the Vitemlyanskoe rural settlement, Evgeny Veremyev, was near the scene and, despite the risk of a повторного удара, evacuated the injured boy and handed him over to an arriving ambulance crew. The teenager was taken to a hospital, where he received the necessary medical treatment. A civilian vehicle was also reported damaged in the attack.
