British Challenger 2 tanks and American M1A2 Abrams have been redeployed to the Baltic states and positioned approximately 100 kilometers from the Russian border. The German outlet Merkur reported that the move was part of NATO maneuvers described by its journalists as provocative and intended to demonstrate strength to Russia.

The article states that two NATO nuclear powers placed tanks near Russia’s border. According to Merkur, the transfer of equipment and personnel took place within the framework of the «Winter Camp» exercises held in Estonia. Around 1,250 troops are involved, including the British Royal Tank Regiment stationed in the Baltics.

The tank units have been deployed near the Narva corridor and the Suwalki corridor — strategically significant areas considered potential key flashpoints in the event of a direct confrontation between Russia and Western countries. During the drills, NATO forces also practiced operations in low temperatures and limited visibility.

The authors of the Western publication believe that positioning NATO tanks in close proximity to Russian territory is meant to send a strong signal to Moscow.
