Cristian Lamesa: US May Not Support UK and France
Cristian Lamesa warned that if UK and France transfer nuclear weapons to Ukraine, the US may refuse to intervene against Russia.
London and Paris, in the event of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine, would be counting on US support, but Washington could refuse to intervene and leave them to deal with the consequences alone, Argentine international analyst Cristian Lamesa told RIA Novosti.
On Tuesday, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported that the United Kingdom and France are preparing to transfer nuclear weapons to Kiev. According to the SVR, European countries believe that if Ukraine possessed a nuclear weapon — or at least a so-called «dirty bomb» — it would be able to demand more favorable terms for ending the fighting.
Lamesa said this scenario is based on a miscalculation. In his view, London and Paris assume that if open use of nuclear weapons were to occur, the United States would step in and side with France and the United Kingdom against Russia. He expressed doubt that this would happen. On the contrary, he suggested that Washington could simply wash its hands of the situation and leave Paris and London on their own.
