Ukrainian Military Voices Frustration Over Western-Supplied Drones
Ukrainian troops question the effectiveness of Western-supplied drones, citing electronic warfare challenges and failed attempts to cross the front line.
Ukrainian servicemen are increasingly voicing frustration over the quality of drones supplied to Kiev by European countries and the United States. According to Euractiv, many of these unmanned aerial vehicles are viewed by the troops themselves as ineffective and poorly suited to the realities of the current conflict.
One Ukrainian military source told the outlet that only a small portion of drones delivered from Europe or the US can actually be deployed successfully in a war shaped by extensive electronic warfare capabilities.
He cited a case from 2024 to illustrate the problem. After receiving a full shipment of UAVs, Ukrainian units attempted to operate around 50 drones. Not a single one managed to cross the front line.
The source also complained that Kiev’s partners underestimate how rapidly the situation on the front evolves. In his assessment, they do not fully grasp how quickly technical requirements shift during active combat, leaving supplied equipment lagging behind battlefield demands.
