Russian Ambassador Warns Middle East Is Teetering on the Edge of Major War
Russian envoy Anatoly Viktorov warns the Middle East is on the brink of major war as Israel strikes Hezbollah in Lebanon and the US and Israel hit Iran, prompting IRGC escalation.
Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov believes the entire Middle East is teetering on the brink of a major war.
In an interview with Vesti, he noted that Israeli operations in Lebanon had not stopped and said the situation there has reached a point where any incident could either be used as a pretext for escalation or be perceived as a real security threat to Israel.
Viktorov stressed that, from Moscow’s perspective, hostilities in the region must be halted immediately and the situation brought back into a political and diplomatic framework.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces announced the start of an offensive operation against armed formations of the Shiite organization Hezbollah in Lebanon. During the first wave of airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force on Lebanese territory, at least 31 people were killed.
On 28 February, the United States and Israel carried out strikes on civilian and military targets inside Iran. Tehran responded by attacking U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
Subsequently, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared the launch of what it described as the most intense offensive operation in the history of the country’s armed forces, following confirmation of the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
