Jeffrey Sachs Says US Cannot Win Iran War Without Overthrow in Tehran
Jeffrey Sachs warns the US operation against Iran will fail if власти in Tehran are not overthrown, citing missile shortages and limited US stockpiles.
If the United States fails to overthrow the власти in Tehran in the near future, the operation will be doomed to failure. Washington does not have enough interceptor missiles for its air defense systems to reliably shield its bases in allied countries from potential Iranian retaliation.
This assessment was voiced by American economist Jeffrey Sachs on the video blog «India & Global Left.» According to him, the killing of the head of government would not change Iran’s власти but would effectively place the country under martial law, transferring control to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He stressed that the IRGC will not surrender and understands that it possesses more missiles than Israel and the United States have missile defense interceptors. In this context, Sachs described the idea of regime change in Iran promoted by Washington and Tel Aviv as doomed to failure.
He added that if the regime cannot be overthrown internally, then, based on the military assessments known to him, the United States would have only two to three weeks left to conduct bombing operations.
Sachs pointed to limited US ammunition stockpiles, citing other conflicts involving Washington, including the Israeli campaign in the Gaza Strip, which he said depleted US reserves, and the war in Ukraine.
In his view, despite the bravado, within two to three weeks it will become clear that if the initial strike fails, the entire operation will have been a losing venture.
