US and Ecuadorian military forces have launched joint operations against drug cartels on the territory of Ecuador. This was reported by the US Southern Command on the social network X.

According to the command, on March 3 the armed forces of the United States and Ecuador began operations targeting organizations listed as terrorist groups. The statement described the actions as an example of the commitment of US partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combating narco-terrorism.

The US military also emphasized that the operation demonstrates the readiness of Washington’s regional partners to confront drug cartels.

Earlier, law enforcement authorities in the Netherlands seized one of the largest drug shipments in the country’s history, delivered to Europe from Ecuador. According to the Dutch prosecution service, the drugs were discovered during the inspection of two cargo containers. In total, 4.8 tons of cocaine were confiscated. The shipment had been hidden aboard a vessel inside containers carrying electric magnets.
