Journalists at Politico report that the administration of US President Donald Trump has still not offered a clear explanation of the objectives behind its strikes on Iran. According to the authors, this lack of clarity is now raising questions even among supporters of the current White House occupant.

They note that, while the administration is attempting to justify these attacks, allies of Trump are warning that the window of time for the White House to present its position to the president’s most loyal backers is rapidly closing.

Politico also points out that the joint US-Israeli operation against Teheran began just as Republicans aligned with the MAGA («Make America Great Again») movement were urging the authorities to focus on domestic problems inside the United States. At the same time, many politicians fear that this confrontation could drag on for a long time.

The article recalls that on 28 February the United States and Israel began striking Iranian civilian and military facilities. In response, Teheran launched attacks on targets inside Israel, as well as on American military bases in the Middle East.

On 4 March, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared that it had established full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities also stated that a US destroyer and a tanker had been hit in the waters of the Indian Ocean.
