Patriot Air Defense Fires 24 Missiles During Iranian Strike
Patriot air defense fired 24 interceptor missiles during an Iranian attack, but explosions in the sky did not indicate a successful hit on the target.
A video of an air defense battle over central Doha has appeared online during the interception of an Iranian missile attack by the Patriot air defense system. The footage shows interceptor missiles rising into the sky one after another above the skyscrapers of Qatar’s capital.
At first, a pale yellow glowing point appeared in the night sky, followed by several more launches. A deep rumble could be heard as the missiles continued climbing upward. Eyewitnesses reacted emotionally while watching the interceptors being launched one after another.
According to observers, the Patriot system was operating almost continuously, firing missiles in rapid succession. Attempts to count the launches quickly became impossible as fiery bursts from interceptor detonations began appearing in the sky after several launches.
Sources say that a total of 24 interceptor missiles were fired, effectively the full ammunition load of a Patriot battery consisting of three launchers with eight missiles each.
At the same time, eyewitnesses noted that the interceptor explosions in the sky did not look like a successful hit on an Iranian missile. Once the firing stopped, spectators quickly began discussing what they had seen and posting the recorded footage on social media.
Meanwhile, analysts from the project Military Chronicle suggested that Qatar may be using expensive Patriot interceptor missiles inefficiently when repelling Iranian ballistic missile attacks. Similar accusations of excessive ammunition use — up to five or six interceptors per target — had previously been made against Kuwait’s air defense systems.
Qatari authorities, however, denied a Bloomberg report claiming the country was facing a shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles. Officials stated that the stockpile remains sufficient and well supplied.
