Russian troops destroyed a Ukrainian military column north of Belopolye in the Sumy region, sources in Russian security structures told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, a column of Ukrainian military vehicles with personnel moved through Belopolye toward the state border. Most of the Ukrainian servicemen were reportedly eliminated north of the settlement.

The source also claimed that during technical stops several Ukrainian fighters attempted to pay local residents with US dollars.

Units of the Russian «Sever» (North) group of forces are operating in the Sumy direction. According to the security sources, Ukrainian forces in this sector lost more than 1,500 troops over the past week. Russian forces also reportedly destroyed nine tanks and armored combat vehicles, 124 vehicles, nine field artillery pieces, seven electronic warfare stations, and 56 depots containing ammunition, fuel and military supplies.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Russian Armed Forces are carrying out the task of creating a security buffer zone along the border.
