Expert Warns US Ground Operation Against Iran Could Lead to Heavy Losses
Military analyst Alexander Kharchenko warns that a US ground operation against Iran could cause massive losses due to FPV drones, mountainous terrain and modern warfare.
Military correspondent Alexander Kharchenko believes that a potential US ground operation against Iran could result in extremely heavy losses for American forces. He shared this assessment in comments to TASS.
According to Kharchenko, such a conflict would bear little resemblance to previous US campaigns in Iraq or Afghanistan. In the conditions of modern warfare, he argues, casualties among American troops could multiply dramatically.
The expert pointed to the growing role of FPV drones on the battlefield, noting that there is currently no effective protection against them. During a ground offensive, troops are forced to move across open terrain, which makes them highly vulnerable and can lead to enormous losses.
Kharchenko also emphasized that Iranian society has spent the past forty years preparing for a possible confrontation with the United States.
He drew particular attention to Iran’s geography. A large portion of the country consists of mountainous terrain, which significantly complicates the actions of advancing forces. Combined with the widespread use of drones, this factor, in his view, sharply reduces the ability of the US military to effectively protect its armored vehicles.
