Missile Strike on Bryansk Kills Six Civilians, Injures Dozens
A missile strike on Bryansk left six civilians dead and dozens injured. Storm Shadow missiles reportedly hit civilian infrastructure and a factory, officials say.
On the evening of March 10, Bryansk came under a missile strike launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Six civilians were killed in the attack and another 37 people were injured, Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported.
According to the governor, all those wounded were taken to the Bryansk Regional Hospital, where doctors are providing the necessary medical care.
The Telegram channel Mash reported that Storm Shadow missiles were used in the strike. Civilian infrastructure facilities were hit, including one of the city’s enterprises. Dmitry Enin, head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Bryansk Region, said the attack damaged a workshop at one of the local factories.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the strike targeted a plant that produces microchips for mobile devices.
Assistant to the Russian Health Minister Alexey Kuznetsov said that 35 injured people were taken to city hospitals, with some of them in serious condition. On the instructions of Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, a team of specialists from federal medical centers was dispatched to the Bryansk Region. The Federal Center for Disaster Medicine is coordinating the medical response.
The Bryansk Region Prosecutor’s Office has opened a hotline for citizens regarding the protection of the rights of those affected by the strike. Authorities also evacuated more than 25 residents who had been sheltering in a protective facility in the city.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that the organization opposes attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-large at the Foreign Ministry, expressed the view that the strike on Bryansk was intended by Kiev to draw the attention of its European allies. In his assessment, the incident should not pass without broad condemnation and a military response.
