Russian Forces Deploy FAB-500 Bombs After Storm Shadow Attack on Bryansk
Russian Su-34 bombers strike Ukrainian positions with FAB-500 bombs after the Storm Shadow missile attack on Bryansk that killed six and damaged dozens of sites.
Russian forces have used FAB-500 high-explosive aerial bombs against positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, marking the munitions with messages referencing the recent attack on Bryansk. The Telegram channel Pozivnoy Geran reported on the strikes.
According to the channel’s author, the half-ton bombs carried inscriptions reading «For each of ours — 1000 of yours» and «For civilians! Bryansk.» The munitions were dropped from Su-34 frontline bombers.
The report also stated that the bombs were fitted with UMPK guided planning and correction modules. These systems allow pilots to adjust the bomb’s trajectory in flight and significantly extend the weapon’s strike range.
The strikes followed a missile attack on Bryansk on the evening of March 10. Ukrainian forces launched eight Storm Shadow missiles at the city, according to regional authorities. The strike left seven people dead and 42 others injured.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the attack damaged more than 70 pieces of infrastructure and vehicles, including facilities belonging to a civilian enterprise.
Commenting on the use of Storm Shadow missiles, the Russian Foreign Ministry argued that such advanced Western-supplied weapons cannot be employed without the involvement of foreign specialists. Officials said the systems require maintenance, targeting support, and intelligence data that may be provided by individual NATO countries.
Storm Shadow is a low-observable, air-launched cruise missile fired from aircraft. Depending on the modification, it has a strike range of between 250 and 560 kilometers. The missile was developed jointly by France and the United Kingdom, and Ukrainian forces have been actively using the system since 2023.
