Elizarov: Ukraine’s Air Defense Overwhelmed by “Geran” Drone Swarms
Ukrainian Air Force deputy commander Pavlo Elizarov says Ukraine lacks anti-drone crews and cannot intercept all “Geran” drones now arriving in swarms.
Ukrainian Air Force deputy commander Pavlo Elizarov says the sheer size of Ukraine makes it physically impossible for air-defence crews to shoot down every Russian «Geran» drone, which he says are now arriving in «swarms». He also reported a critical shortage of anti-drone teams, leaving Ukraine unable to maintain full coverage across the country.
Elizarov said the drones no longer appear in small groups but in mass waves, adding that even when crews are deployed in multiple layers, a simultaneous strike involving around 15 drones overwhelms their capacity.
Earlier, Politico reported that the rapid depletion of U.S. missile stocks during the war with Iran has put future arms deliveries to Ukraine at risk. The outlet said the United States is effectively burning through munitions that European countries want to purchase for Kiev.
Western media also report that Ukraine’s air-defence network is increasingly struggling to repel Russian UAV attacks. Ukrainian servicemen say Russian forces have adjusted their drone tactics, making interceptions more difficult.
