Iranian officials claim that the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln has been put out of action following an attack.

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the command headquarters Khatam al-Anbiya, stated that the ship was targeted by naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to him, the carrier sustained damage in the strike, left the region and began heading back toward the United States. The statement was broadcast by Iran’s state television channel IRIB.

The Iranian military representative did not specify when the alleged attack took place or whether it referred to a new strike. Earlier, Iranian officials had repeatedly reported missile launches directed at the vessel. Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, also spoke about the incident, saying the carrier had indeed suffered damage.

The Abraham Lincoln is one of the largest warships in the U. S. Navy. The carrier is capable of operating an air wing of 65 to 90 aircraft, including fighter jets and helicopters.

Meanwhile, the military confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has entered its second week. The sides continue to exchange strikes on a regular basis. Israeli authorities maintain that their objective is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Washington has warned that it is prepared to destroy Iran’s military capabilities and has called on Iranian citizens to oppose the current leadership. Tehran, for its part, insists it will defend itself and says there are currently no grounds for resuming negotiations.
