Former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that the United States has lost every war since World War II except those fought under the United Nations flag.

In his view, the only factor capable of stopping the US-Israeli military operation against Iran could be internal problems in the United States itself, including rising inflation, higher dollar interest rates, and other economic pressures. Borrell believes that Iran is trying to provoke exactly such consequences through its response.

He also argued that Washington did not have a clear plan for its actions toward the Islamic Republic. According to Borrell, the actions of the United States and Israel risk triggering a global energy crisis.

Borrell also commented on the position of the European Union, saying that the current «European cacophony» is partly caused by the European Commission making statements on issues that fall outside its authority. He recalled that under EU treaties the Commission does not represent the Union in foreign and defense policy, which is the responsibility of the European Council chaired by Antonio Costa.
