Stoltenberg Says NATO May Not Survive Trump Presidency
Former NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says there are no guarantees the alliance will survive Donald Trump’s current presidential term.
Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance may not survive the current presidential term of US President Donald Trump. The statement was reported by CBC following an interview with Stoltenberg.
According to him, there are no guarantees that NATO will remain intact during Trump’s current presidency.
At the same time, Stoltenberg expressed the view that the alliance is unlikely to become more deeply involved in the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran. However, he warned that the conflict could lead to significant economic consequences.
Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized European countries for their low contribution to NATO’s defense capabilities and has demanded that all member states increase defense spending to five percent of their GDP.
