Large-Scale Ukrainian Drone Attacks Intensify Around Moscow
Ukrainian drones continue targeting the Moscow region as Russian air defenses intercept hundreds of UAVs. Some drones may be used to locate air-defense systems.
With the arrival of spring, Ukrainian forces have been launching near-daily drone attacks on Russian territory, sending large numbers of unmanned aerial vehicles toward targets across the country. The scale of these raids suggests that resources for such operations may have been accumulated throughout the winter. This assessment was reported by the Telegram channel «Arkhangel Spetsnaza».
According to the channel, a significant portion of the drones intercepted over Russia carry no explosives at all. These so-called decoy drones are believed to serve a tactical purpose: forcing Russian air-defense systems to activate, exposing the locations of missile batteries, and testing how well different areas are protected.
The publication argues that once such probing launches are completed, more precise strikes could follow, potentially targeting enterprises linked to the defense industry and other strategic facilities.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian forces attempted to strike the Moscow region using long-range FP-1 drones. This type of UAV is powered by a gasoline engine, can travel up to 1,200 kilometers, and is capable of carrying a warhead weighing about 50 kilograms.
Drone activity around the Russian capital has continued for several days. Reports of UAV flights have come from areas near Naro-Fominsk, Solnechnogorsk, Istra, Mozhaysk, and other localities. Residents have also reported hearing explosions near Kubinka, Podolsk, Dubna, and Domodedovo.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that Russian air-defense systems destroyed around 250 drones over the past two days as they approached the capital and at more distant defensive lines.
Meanwhile, Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that from 8 a.m. on March 15 to 8 a.m. on March 16, air-defense forces intercepted 174 Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk region.
