According to Alexey Chesnakov, head of the Scientific Council at the Center for Political Conjuncture, US President Donald Trump has effectively stepped back from efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, thereby opening a new chapter in the ongoing standoff.

Chesnakov pointed out that Trump has fully delegated the financial and military support for Ukraine to Europe and NATO. Given this shift, he predicts that at least one more winter and summer of military campaigns are to be expected.

The political analyst emphasized that the financial burden of supporting Ukraine is now entirely on the EU. He noted that Trump has made it clear that Ukraine’s goals can only be achieved with Europe’s backing, but said little about the role of the United States.

Chesnakov further suggested that, after intensifying battles, both sides may eventually recognize the limits of achieving their objectives through military means alone. This, he argued, could prompt the US to return to a mediating role in the conflict’s resolution.
