Analyst Explains Zelensky’s Offer to Help US With Drones
Analyst Spiridon Kilinkarov explains why Zelensky offered US help against Iranian drones, linking it to arms deals and global political positioning.
Political analyst Spiridon Kilinkarov stated that Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal to assist the United States in countering Iranian drones serves several purposes.
He noted that, at present, only the Russian and Ukrainian armies have accumulated substantial experience in counter-drone warfare, but Ukraine does not possess its own technologies of the kind Zelensky refers to. According to Kilinkarov, Ukraine functions as a testing ground for NATO weapons, while the results are presented as Ukrainian achievements.
Kilinkarov also said that the proposal carries a demonstrative element toward the United States and its leadership. In his view, it creates a situation in which the US would have to rely on assistance from Ukraine despite its limited resources.
In addition, he stated that Kiev is attempting to gain access to advanced air defense systems and missiles by offering its experience in drone interception. However, he stressed that such an exchange is unrealistic due to limited production volumes and high demand for these weapons elsewhere, including in the Middle East.
Kilinkarov concluded that the idea of offering assistance to the United States is an attempt by Kiev to reinsert itself into the global agenda and draw renewed attention.
