Russian developers continue to upgrade Geran-type kamikaze drones, increasing their speed and reducing the effectiveness of Ukrainian interceptor drones. This was stated by Ukrainian military expert Serhiy Beskrestnov, an adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

According to him, Russia is systematically improving its drones in response to Ukrainian developments. The increase in speed makes Kiev’s reliance on interceptor drones less effective.

He noted that current versions of these UAVs already approach the speed limits of Ukrainian interceptors. At the same time, he said that a new modification, the Geran-5 with a jet engine, is being tested. It is expected to reach speeds of 500–600 km/h, significantly exceeding the capabilities of existing interception systems.

The expert stated that such upgrades could seriously affect the effectiveness of Ukraine’s entire air defense system. In his view, this creates a need for new solutions, including jet-powered interceptor drones, but work in this direction is not currently underway.
