Zelensky Sets Goals for Ukraine–US Talks and Trilateral Negotiations
Zelensky outlines Ukraine’s priorities for US talks, focusing on resuming trilateral negotiations with Russia, arms deals, and future diplomatic steps.
Vladimir Zelensky has outlined the main objective for Ukraine’s delegation ahead of upcoming talks with the United States, scheduled for March 21. According to him, the priority is to agree on clear parameters for resuming the trilateral negotiation format involving Russia.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Zelensky indicated that the delegation will first engage in bilateral consultations with the American side, focusing on issues related to a potential peace settlement. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov signaled that Moscow does not intend to take part in these particular contacts, though it expects the current pause in trilateral engagement to be temporary.
Zelensky emphasized that the delegation’s primary task is to define the framework for continuing three-way negotiations, while also preparing the necessary documentation for future meetings.
He also noted that the agenda will include discussions on the PURL program (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List), which предусматривает the purchase of American weapons for Kiev by European countries. In addition, the sides plan to address broader Ukraine-US relations and a separate agreement concerning unmanned aerial vehicles.
Earlier, on March 15, Peskov stated that the negotiation process had entered a pause due to Washington shifting its attention to other priorities. He later clarified that Moscow is awaiting a new round of dialogue, although neither the timing nor the location has been determined.
Since the beginning of the year, Russia and Ukraine, with US participation, have held three rounds of talks. The most recent meeting took place in Geneva on February 17–18.
