The Pentagon has prepared detailed plans for a possible deployment of ground troops to Iran, CBS News reports, citing sources.

According to the broadcaster, senior US military leadership has submitted specific requests related to preparations for such a scenario, while Donald Trump weighs further steps within the conflict with Iran. At the same time, the conditions under which the US president could order the start of a ground operation remain undefined. Operational planning involves the US Army’s global response forces and Marine Corps expeditionary units.

Earlier, Trump publicly denied plans to deploy ground troops to Iran, while indicating that even if such a decision were made, he would not disclose it in advance.

The US and Israel’s military operation against Iran has entered its third week, with the sides continuing to exchange strikes. Tel Aviv states its goal is to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Washington declares its intent to destroy the country’s military potential and calls on citizens to overthrow the regime. Iran, in turn, states it is ready to defend itself and sees no grounds for resuming negotiations.
