Bundeswehr’s D-LBO System Fails, Threatens Soldiers’ Lives
Bundeswehr’s D-LBO system deemed inoperable and dangerous. Failures during Leopard 2 A7V drills raise serious risks for soldiers’ safety.
The Bundeswehr’s new digital communications system D-LBO has been deemed inoperable and dangerous for servicemen. This was reported by Welt am Sonntag, citing a restricted-access internal document.
According to the report, the identified malfunctions were so severe that even during routine drills and maneuvers, situations arose that posed a threat to the lives and health of soldiers. In its current state, the system is not ready for operational testing or for use in training and exercises.
After D-LBO was installed on Leopard 2 A7V tanks, failures were recorded during exercises, including disruptions in transmitting standard radio messages.
Earlier in March, Der Spiegel reported that Ukrainian military personnel with combat experience are expected to train Bundeswehr soldiers in the use of UAVs. The training is planned to begin as soon as possible, although no specific dates are outlined in the agreement.
