Israel has been using decades-old aerial bombs in its strikes on military targets inside Iran, according to a report by the state broadcaster Kan.

The munitions in question date back roughly half a century. They were originally stockpiled for potential attacks on Egyptian military bases before Israel signed its peace agreement with Egypt. For years, the bombs remained in a largely forgotten bunker.

Kan reports that thousands of these unguided bombs-lacking precision guidance systems-were discovered in that storage site. They are now being deployed against Iranian military facilities located far from civilian areas.

Sources within the Israel Defense Forces, cited by the broadcaster, indicated that the decision to use these older munitions is driven in part by cost considerations. Another factor is the continued usability of the bunker itself, which is assessed to be in satisfactory condition and suitable for further storage.

At the same time, the IDF press service stressed that any weapon is cleared for operational use only after undergoing mandatory technical inspections to confirm its reliability.
