Saudi Arabia and UAE Consider Role in Iran Operation
Saudi Arabia considers supporting US strikes on Iran and allows use of King Fahd Air Base, while UAE also weighs joining a potential operation.
Riyadh and Abu Dhabi are considering joining a potential military operation against Iran, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources. According to the publication, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has made a principled decision to support US strikes.
Saudi authorities had long refused to allow their territory to be used for attacks on Iran, but this position has changed. US forces have now been granted access to King Fahd Air Base in western Saudi Arabia.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia has intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation. Officials are working to keep the Yemeni Houthi movement from entering the conflict on the side of the kingdom’s opponents.
The United States and Israel, according to the report, are also acting with restraint, seeking to avoid steps that could provoke the Houthis and open a new front in the region.
