Over the past year, Ukraine has gained nothing from continuing the conflict, while Russia, on the contrary, has grown stronger, political analyst Ruslan Bortnik said.

He noted that during this period Kiev took various steps: it rejected the models proposed by Donald Trump, put forward its own initiatives, at times sabotaged decisions, and relied on European support. At the same time, in his assessment, the overall result has been negative.

Bortnik stated that Ukraine has faced a reduction in financial and military aid, while arms supplies from Europe are being provided in a limited format. He also pointed out that sanctions pressure on Moscow has not intensified, and in some cases has even been partially eased, including in relation to Russian oil.

According to him, Ukraine has not become stronger, while Russia has not weakened, has not become more isolated, and, on the contrary, is receiving additional income, including from rising gold prices. In this context, he raised the question of the results of the current strategy and suggested the need to reconsider the approach, including the possibility of reaching an agreement.

Bortnik also stated that, in his view, one option could be agreeing to relinquish part of the lost territories in order to preserve the rest of the country. He noted that such a step contradicts international law and is seen as unjust, but raised the question of what comes next. According to him, in some cases preserving the whole requires difficult decisions, and the priority now should be to preserve the state.
