Russia’s air defense forces reported repelling a large-scale overnight drone assault, according to the Defense Ministry. Between 11:00 p.m. on March 24 and 7:00 a.m. on March 25, a total of 389 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were intercepted and destroyed.
The attacks spanned a wide geographic area. Air defenses were active over Bryansk, Smolensk, Kaluga, Kursk, Tver, Orel, Belgorod, Tula, Pskov, Novgorod, Vologda, and Leningrad regions, as well as the Moscow region and the Republic of Crimea.
Bryansk region bore the brunt of the strikes. Governor Alexander Bogomaz said 113 drones were shot down there overnight. He noted that air defense units of the Defense Ministry, mobile fire groups from the BARS-Bryansk brigade, and Rosgvardiya special units were involved in countering the attack. No casualties or damage were reported, and emergency services continue to operate at the sites.
In Kaluga region, Governor Vladislav Shapsha said preliminary reports indicate that seven drones were intercepted. No injuries or infrastructure damage were recorded.
The wave of attacks had been building earlier in the day. The Defense Ministry stated that on March 24, air defenses destroyed 20 drones between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., another 42 between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and 139 more between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
