Russia to Train Over 70,000 Drone Specialists for Military Units
Russia plans to train over 70,000 drone specialists in 2026, expanding unmanned systems capabilities as UAVs play a key role in modern battlefield operations.
The Russian Armed Forces are set to significantly expand training programs for specialists serving in unmanned systems units. According to Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Anatoly Kontsevoy, more than 70,000 such personnel are expected to be trained in 2026.
Kontsevoy noted that the military has already built up a substantial кадровый потенциал in this field, but the training effort is far from complete. Speaking at a Federation Council meeting focused on the use of unmanned and robotic systems in the Far East and the Arctic, he подчеркнул that the preparation of new operators and technical specialists will continue at an increased scale throughout the year.
Since the start of the special military operation, drones have become one of the central tools on the line of combat contact. Their role extends beyond reconnaissance: they are actively used to strike equipment, positions, and enemy personnel.
Drone operators maintain constant surveillance over the battlefield, effectively serving as the «eyes» on the front line. Unmanned aerial vehicles operate around the clock, enabling continuous monitoring of enemy activity and allowing forces to respond quickly to shifts in the situation.
