Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned that a further deterioration in relations between Europe and the United States could threaten NATO’s very existence.

Speaking in an interview with blogger Mario Nawfal, Orban suggested that the alliance could collapse if EU countries fail to reconsider their approach toward US President Donald Trump and Washington more broadly. In his view, a hostile stance from European leaders toward the American president-as well as toward current and future generations of Republicans-risks undermining the foundations of the transatlantic partnership.

Orban argued that preserving cooperation with the United States will require Europe to focus on pragmatic, mutually beneficial agreements and to maintain them over the long term.
