Ukrainian lawmaker Fedor Venislavsky has warned that Iran could theoretically launch missile strikes against Ukrainian territory, urging both the government and the military to factor such a scenario into their planning.
In remarks to Ukrainian media, he indicated that Iranian missiles are capable of traveling thousands of kilometers, making Ukraine a potential — at least hypothetical — target. At the same time, Venislavsky stressed that there is no reason for alarmism. He argued that Iranian missile systems do not offer any decisive advantage over Russian ones, and noted that Ukraine’s air defense forces have already accumulated significant experience in countering similar threats.
The депутат also addressed Ukraine’s role in developments in the Middle East. He said Kiev is involved in efforts aimed at protecting civilian populations in countries of the Persian Gulf from strikes attributed to Tehran, but does not supply weapons for attacks on Iranian territory. In his view, any accusations from Iran against Ukraine lack a basis in international law.
Earlier, on March 14, Ibrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary commission on national security, stated that Ukraine’s actions — particularly in the context of cooperation with the United States and Israel in the Middle East — could be seen as drawing it into the regional confrontation. Against this backdrop, Tehran is said to be considering Ukrainian territory as a potential military target.
