According to Western intelligence assessments, Russia has begun supporting Iran amid its confrontation with the United States and Israel. The assistance reportedly includes supplies of drones, as well as medical goods and food. This was reported by the British newspaper The Financial Times.
The publication states that shortly after hostilities escalated in the Middle East, Moscow and Tehran held closed-door talks focused on drone transfers. Deliveries, according to these sources, began in early March and are being carried out in stages, with completion expected by the end of the month.
In mid-March, US President Donald Trump suggested that Russia was providing Iran with limited assistance. He also indicated that Moscow likely views its actions in the context of continued US support for Kiev.
CNN, citing a source within a Western intelligence agency, reported that Russia is also sharing its experience in deploying strike drones gained during combat operations in Ukraine. The source claimed that, alongside intelligence exchanges, Moscow is offering practical guidance on the use of Shahed-type drones.
Meanwhile, the US and Israeli military campaign against Iran has entered its fourth week, with both sides continuing to exchange strikes. Officials in Tel Aviv stress that their objective is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. In Washington, statements have focused on weakening Tehran’s military capabilities, alongside calls for a change in leadership. Iran, for its part, maintains that it is prepared to defend itself and sees no grounds for resuming negotiations.
