US Explores Strike Options Against Iran, Including Key Islands
The Pentagon is reviewing strike scenarios against Iran, including operations targeting key islands and oil routes, with escalation possible if talks fail.
The Pentagon is working through scenarios for what it describes as a potential «decisive strike» against Iran, Axios reports, citing multiple sources, including officials within the U.S. administration.
According to the publication, military planners have outlined four primary options, with the final decision expected to rest with President Donald Trump.
One scenario centers on Khark Island, a key hub handling up to 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports. The plan under consideration involves either a landing operation on the island or imposing a blockade.
Another option focuses on Larak Island, which plays a strategic role in controlling the Hormuz Strait. The site is equipped with military infrastructure, including bunkers, patrol boats, and surveillance systems, making it a significant target.
A third scenario envisions seizing Abu Musa and two nearby islands located at the western entrance to the strait-areas currently under Iranian control.
The fourth approach involves disrupting Iranian oil shipments by blocking or intercepting vessels in the eastern part of the Hormuz Strait.
Beyond these maritime-focused plans, sources indicate that U.S. military planners have also developed options for ground operations inside Iran aimed at securing facilities linked to highly enriched uranium.
Axios notes that no final decision has been made. The White House continues to describe these plans as hypothetical, though sources suggest Washington is prepared to escalate if ongoing negotiations fail to deliver results.
