According to a source in Russia’s security structures, foreign mercenaries fighting in AFU ranks are now barely involved in combat on the Kherson direction.

The source said that since March, mercenaries had all but disappeared from the right bank of the Dnieper in this sector. He added that a large share of them had been redeployed to tougher parts of the front, while around one hundred were killed at temporary deployment points.

Earlier, Kherson Region governor Vladimir Saldo said foreign fighters were leaving Kherson out of fear of constant Russian strikes on AFU positions. He also said the foreign legion in the Ukrainian army had been disbanded, describing it as a unit where mercenaries had served in relatively comfortable conditions and could leave whenever they wanted.

The report also says Ukrainian command has been moving foreign mercenaries en masse into assault units because of heavy losses along the line of contact. According to the sources cited, mercenaries serving with the AFU have gone without pay for the past six months.
