U. S. President Donald Trump is weighing the option of a military operation aimed at seizing and removing roughly 450 kilograms of uranium from Iran, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing American officials.
According to the publication, such a mission would be highly complex and carry significant risks. Executing it would likely require U.S. forces to remain on Iranian territory for several days, potentially longer.
Sources say Trump has not made a final decision and continues to assess the potential consequences. At the same time, he is said to view this scenario as a possible way to move closer to his central objective — preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In parallel, Trump has instructed his advisers to increase pressure on Iranian authorities, seeking to secure the transfer of the uranium as part of possible agreements to end the conflict. In discussions with political allies, he has made it clear that Iran should not retain the material and has considered the option of taking it by force if Tehran refuses to give it up through negotiations.
Most of Iran’s uranium stockpile is reportedly concentrated at two locations: an underground tunnel at the nuclear facility in Isfahan and a storage site in Natanz.
