Trump Warns of Strike on Khark if Iran Deal Collapses
Donald Trump says the US could strike Khark Island, oil sites and power plants if Iran derails a peace deal and the Strait of Hormuz stays closed.
US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social page that if the Iranian authorities derail a peace deal, American forces will strike oil wells, power plants and Khark Island.
He said that if an agreement was not reached soon — which he suggested was likely — and if the Strait of Hormuz was not immediately reopened for business, the United States would bring its «stay» in Iran to an end.
A day earlier, Trump said Washington wanted to take control of Iranian oil and did not rule out seizing Khark Island. He argued that the United States could carry out a ground operation without major difficulty because, in his view, Iran was not defending the area effectively enough. He also claimed that Tehran had accepted most of Washington’s proposed settlement plan.
Trump had previously said the United States was ready for talks with Iran. At the same time, he argued that there was no one in the country to negotiate with because, according to him, no one wanted to become Iran’s leader anymore.
