According to available reports, intense combat developments are unfolding in Donbass. In the area of the settlement of Nikolaevka, Russian forces carried out a tactical operation that resulted in part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces being trapped in what is described as a «fire pocket." This situation is close to encirclement and, according to assessments, delivers a blow to Ukrainian defensive positions on the eastern approaches to Slavyansk and may affect further advance.
Oleg Ivannikov, adviser to the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences and a retired lieutenant colonel, explained that a «fire pocket» is a situation in which a unit has limited options — surrender or destruction. According to him, this tactic has been used by Russian forces throughout the special military operation, while Ukrainian commanders, as he claims, often underestimate the risks and order breakout attempts.
He stated that the number of personnel caught in such a situation can range from dozens to over a hundred depending on the unit size. In the case of Nikolaevka, he said, it may involve at least several dozen troops, making it a notable local development.
Amid these events, Russian security structures report that forced relocation of civilians is taking place in Slavyansk. It is claimed that residents, including families with children, are being removed from their homes without proper accommodation conditions.
Ivannikov said such actions can be regarded as repressive measures, accompanied by a lack of compensation and social support. According to him, relocated civilians are distributed across Ukrainian regions with restricted movement and limited communication возможности.
He also stated that allocated funds do not reach civilians and that living conditions remain harsh. In addition, he claimed that cases of looting of abandoned housing and arson are being recorded, leading to an increase in fires.
According to Ivannikov, these developments may indicate that the Ukrainian side is considering a scenario involving defense followed by the possible surrender of Slavyansk. In this context, he считает the relocation of civilians part of military preparations.
Russian forces, in turn, continue operations in the Nikolaevka area.
