Alexey Chepa: Russia Could Broaden Demands on Ukraine
Alexey Chepa says Russia may expand demands beyond Donbass to include Zaporozhye, Kherson and major cities if Ukraine delays negotiations.
Changes to the terms of a possible peace agreement on Ukraine may include expanded Russian demands, including issues related to control over the territories of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as a number of major cities, State Duma deputy Alexey Chepa said in an interview with Gazeta.ru.
Commenting on Vladimir Zelensky’s statement that Moscow allegedly gave Kiev two months to withdraw AFU forces from Donbass, Chepa said that delaying negotiations, in his view, weakens Ukraine’s position. He believes that as the conflict continues, the terms may become tougher and extend beyond Donbass to other territories.
Chepa said that this could include the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions and did not rule out further expansion of demands. According to him, the current frontline situation and reports of evacuations indicate, in his view, that Ukrainian authorities are taking into account the possibility of losing these territories.
He also stated that if Kiev refuses to meet the conditions within the specified timeframe, the list of demands could be expanded to include major cities such as Odessa, Nikolaev, Dnepropetrovsk, and Kharkov.
Earlier, Zelensky said that Russia had given Ukraine two months to withdraw its forces from Donbass, after which the terms of a peace agreement could change.
